Vienna City Council reviews travel reimbursement policy

The Vienna City Council met Jan. 4 to review the new travel reimbursement policy.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

There being a quorum, Mayor Simmons called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at 6:30 p.m.

Alderwoman Myrick made a motion to approve the Omnibus consent agenda consisting of the minutes from the December 21, 2016 City council meeting minutes and the warrant $13,259.33. Alderman Racey seconded the motion. The vote was as follows: Hill-aye, Evans-eye, Myrick-aye, Owen-aye, Racey-aye and Williams-aye. Motion carried.

New business

Alderman Evans made a motion to authorize and approve funds for repair and maintenance to sewer pumps, $2,226.14 - Municipal equipment company, adding to also cover shipping costs in the motion. The motion was seconded by Alderwoman Myrick. Motion carried. All present in favor.

City Elected and appointed officials

Mayor Simmons commented Fire Chief Williams and the department for their many hours of efforts of cleanup after the recent plan crash on old metropolis road.

Clerk, Wright told council she had contracted IDOT on city population signs saying they could be reinstalled at no cost if the council wanted. Alderman Owen requested a quote on adding the population to the city welcome signs. Wright also gave information on possible grant possibilities.

City attorney, Stratemeyer, updated council on a new law which a city ordinance would have to be passed for any travel reimbursement for employees.

City Supt., Racey informed council all Christmas lights had been taken down for the season.

Alderman Racey mentioned the 50/100 mile run and parking issues as next year's run looks to be much bigger. Brief discussion took place.

Alderman Williams mentioned concern of many unpaid fire call invoices that went back several years due to the outstanding amount. Stratemeyer said he could issue final notice letters before taking any legal action. Council agreed.

At 6:58 p.m. Alderman Owen made a motion to go out of regular session into executive session. Pending or threatened litigation as per 5ILCS 120/0 (c)(11). Alderwoman Hill seconded the motion. Motion carried. All present in favor.

At 7:43 p.m. Alderman Owen made a motion to resume the regular council meeting. Motion was seconded by Alderwoman Myrick. Motion carried. All present in favor.

Alderman Evans made a motion to add newly appointed treasurer, Michelle Meyers, to all accounts at all financial institutions used by the city of Vienna. Alderwoman Hill seconded the motion. Motion carried. All present in favor.

As there was no further business to discuss Alderman Evans made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Alderman Owen. Motion carried.

Mayor Simmons declared the meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
