Vienna City Council addresses missing population signs

The Vienna City Council met Dec. 7 to address missing population signs.

Here are the meeting's minutes, as provided by the council:

The City Council of the City of Vienna met in regular session, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Vienna City Hall with the following members and guest:

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS PRESENT: Jon Simmons, Mayor Alan Racey, Alderman Cheryl Myrick, Alderwoman Jim Evans, Alderman Melissa Hill, Alderwoman Chesley Williams, Alderman Richard Owen, Alderman Aleatha Wright, City Clerk Shane Racey, City Superintendent Jim Miller, Police Chief Brent Williams, Fire Chief Margaret Mathis, City Librarian Phil Morris, Depot.

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS ABSENT: Josh Stratemeyer, City Attorney

GUESTs PRESENT:. Michelle Meyers Janice Clayton Kevin MacDonald

There being a quorum. Mayor Simmons called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at 6:30 p.m. Alderwoman Myrick made a motion to approve the Omnibus Consent Agenda consisting of the minutes from the November 16, 2016 City Council Meeting Minutes and the Warrant ($30,999.15). Alderwoman Hill seconded the motion. The vote was as follows: Hill-aye, Evansaye, Myrick-aye, Owen-aye, Racey-aye, and Williams- aye. Motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT/ADDITION TO AGENDA

NEW BUSINESS

Kevin MacDonald, member of the Elks club, was present to speak with council on obtaining a sign for the non for profit sign directory at the city park. Council informed MacDonald any organization would have to purchase their own sign.

City Elected and Appointed Officials

Mayor Simmons commended Donald Cook on his recent efforts in collecting and delivering donations to Gatlinburg, TN. Simmons said Cook would be accepting toys at the city park the following week.

Clerk, Wright spoke with council concerning a recent inquiry of liquor license being allowed at the location of Redbud Road. Discussion took place. No action taken City Supt. Racey requested to purchase lane shift signs for use when repairing water mains. Council agreed the signs were needed for safety precautions and traffic flow. Racey also informed council that several members of public works dept. were taking mandatory gas tests to be completed by December.

Police Chief Miller said J.T. Waters had completed his Eagle Scout bat house project.

Fire Chief Williams announced the Fire Dept. Christmas party to take place Saturday, December 11th at 6:00 p.m. Williams questioning if the city would consider matching funds in the event the department could find a used truck for replacement of the 83' model the department currently had. Council agreed to consider it.

Phil Morris, Depot, presented $1,000.00 donation from Steve Durbin, Durbin Race Management to the city's Tourism Fund. Morris said they look to have possibly 750 runners at next year's 50/100 mile run and briefly spoke on parking issues and bathrooms. Alderman Racey said he Would inquire about any grants available for bathrooms at the city park at the next Southern Five meeting. Morris said Santa at the Depot was a success with a turnout of close to 200 children attending. Morris also thanked Alisa Goines for all her help this past year at the Depot.

Alderman Racey mentioned looking into why the city no longer had population signs. Clerk said she would contact IDOT.

At 7:35 p.m. Alderman Owen made a motion to go out of Regular Session into Executive Session as per 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1). Alderman Racey seconded the motion. Motion carried. All present in favor.

At 9:28 p.m. Alderman Owen made a motion to resume the regular council meeting. Motion was seconded by Alderwoman Hill. Motion carried. All present in favor.

Alderman Owen made a motion to accept Mayor Simmons Selection for the appointment of City Treasurer, Michelle Meyers, to be sworn into office at the December 21st council meeting. The motion was seconded by Alderwoman Hill. All present in favor.

As there was no further business to discuss Alderwoman Myrick made a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded by Alderman Owen. Motion carried.

Mayor Simmons declared the meeting adjourned at 9:33 p.m.
