City of Metropolis Water/Light/Street Committee met April 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Moved by Alderman David McManus and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 3-22-2017 as presented;

*No action on uptown the restrooms, discussion only. The bathrooms are needed for the tourists and will benefit our uptown merchants. We made an offer to a local resident for his empty lot uptown but he rejected the offer. The restrooms will be located behind Super City Antiques on city property. Aldermen’s Chuck Short and Mike Hall along with the Mayor are making this happen before the Annual Superman Celebration. Discussion of changing the parking to angle versus parallel to accommodate more vehicles, no decision was made. The carnival during the Superman Celebration will be held at the Riverfront this year due to new business construction at the old Clark School location.

Frank Walsh at the WWTP stated it has been since 2007 that the pump has been worked on. The bearing is going out and needs permission to proceed with repairs with Cardinal Pumps out of Saint Louis.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman David McManus to recommend to the full Council to take action to proceed on issue with High Service Pump #2;

The following motion is the 10% retainage payment on materials and labor stated John Weider with HMG.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman Mike Hall to recommend to the full Council to take action on Pay Application No. 7- Final for the influent Mechanical fine screen replacement in the amount of $65,000.00 to DBIA;

Massac Nursery will do our annual flower baskets for last year’s approximate amount and will bring to Council for a motion including price.

Moved by Alderman Mike Hall and Second by Alderman David McManus to recommend to the full Council to take action on proceeding with flower baskets for the uptown and downtown business districts;

Parks & Recreation Director Pris Abell stated she will need to order pool chemicals and will bring to Council for a motion including pricing.
