Bailey promises to be a strong voice against taxation, better business climate

Darren Bailey thinks his lack of experience makes him the most qualified candidate because it shows that he is not part of the inherent corruption of politics.

“I think not having political experience will be an advantage,” Bailey told the SE Illinois News of his run against Democrat Cynthia Given in the 109th House District. “Too many of these career politicians have become part of the system and are caught up in the power and prestige of having the job. I won’t be that way. I will vote for what I believe in and what the people want me to get this state back on track.”

Bailey points to a recent Thumbtack Small Business Friendly Survey that found Illinois is the least accommodating state in the nation for small business as an example of just how far the state has fallen from grace.

The online services company survey of local entrepreneurs and small business owners ended with Illinois receiving a failing grade for its overall level of friendliness and business regulations, the Illinois Policy Institute (IPI) website states.

Respondents also blasted the state’s government websites with failing marks, while only handing out a D for training and network programs and for the level of assistance given in launching a business.

“What appalls me the most is how I continue to hear stories about how Illinois is doing so much for businesses, but every action you see suggests otherwise,” said Bailey, who recently scored the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Businesses. “Everyone knows Illinois is a cesspool for businesses, and it’s going to be that way until we remove these tons and tons of un-needed regulations.”

Two state income tax hikes in the last seven years have also gone a long way in hindering the state’s progress, IPI states.

Part of Bailey’s Springfield mission centers on ending the notion that taxes are a remedy to any problem, he said.

“I think being a strong voice on these type of matters and others will make a difference,” he said. “I’m going to Springfield not being a part of the system and not looking to back down on the things that are most important to voters.”

The 109th House District includes Clay, Edwards, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne and White counties.
