State Rep. Dave Severin (R-Benton) tells Gov. J.B. Pritzker to stop beating up Republicans, small businesses, and the State of Illinois.

“We saw a different Gov. Pritzker today. I think he was very defensive and very partisan,” Severin said in a statement. “The last year has been tough on everyone, and I think the governor might be realizing that his decisions have had very negative impacts on the state budget and economic growth.”

Severin said that as a small business owner he can say that "we’ve been hurting for the last year, we continue to hurt, and I’ll continue to work upbeat and not beat-up small businesses.”

He stresses that the governor’s budget plan will also increase taxes on small businesses by $1 billion. Pritzker proposed to close “corporate loopholes.”

“What that means is he wants to raise taxes on small businesses across the state that have been so badly hurt by his orders by a billion or so dollars to make his budget balance,” Severin said. “Punishing small businesses and removing incentives for economic investment and growth will make the budget situation in Illinois worse, not better.”

“Let’s continue to be upbeat and do not beat us up anymore,” Severin called on the governor. "Let’s be upbeat and work for Southern Illinois and the state of Illinois."
