Galatia Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met Nov. 18.

The Tax Levy Hearing of the Galatia Community Unit School District No. 1 Board was held in the conference room at the Annex. Roll call was taken, and those present were Tim Pribble, Bryan McCabe, Holly Murphy, Amy Richey, Kayla Lewis, and Mike Cummins. B.J. Pigg was absent. Six (6) members present and one (1) member absent. Board President, Tim Pribble, called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. Also present: Superintendent, Shain Crank, HS Principal, Ashley Launius, and Recording Secretary, Michele Hankins.
VISITORS: Samantha and Todd Parish, David Evans, Stephen Evans, Donnie Bond, Ronnie Bond, Denise Stricklin, Cheryl Tuttle, Mark Oglesby, Jill Moore, Chris Naas, Todd Kuczynski, Merlina Pritchett, Rachel Parish, Paul and Becky Butler, Matt Pluta, Jess Moore, and Josh Moore.
Discussion on the Tax Levy: Members of the audience expressed their concerns over the proposed tax levy rate increase of 12.5%. The Board members heard concerns on how the proposed rate would impact property taxes. The district is currently in a solid position financially with 392 days cash of hand. The board expressed they are preparing for the next few years with state and federal funding anticipated being reduced.
B.J. Pigg entered the meeting at 6:59 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT:
A motion was made by McCabe and seconded by Cummins to adjourn the tax levy hearing at 8:03 p.m. McCabe-aye, Cummins-aye, Murphy-aye, Lewis-aye, Pribble-aye, Richey-aye, and Pigg-aye. Seven (7) ayes, motion carried.
