State Representative Patrick Windhorst addressed the Illinois House on Wednesday to recognize Metropolis on “Home of Superman Recognition Day.”

Windhorst stated, “Today is Home of Superman Recognition Day in the city of Metropolis. On January 21st, 1972, National Periodical Publications agreed with the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce for Metropolis to become the home of Superman. Later, on June 9th, the Illinois General Assembly adopted a Resolution declaring Metropolis the official hometown of Superman. To celebrate, Metropolis residents are wearing their Superman shirts to work today, and a Proclamation was read at the Superman statue this morning at 10:00 AM. Please join me in congratulating the city of Metropolis on this Home of Superman Recognition Day.”

Windhorst, a Republican, has represented Illinois’s 117th House District since his election in 2023. He succeeded Natalie Phelps Finnie as state representative.
