Two 2010 graduates of St. Anthony High School, located in Effingham, Illinois, have been named the winners of the 2016 Thomas J. Epplin Health Profession Scholarship.
Monica Lin and Lauren Hoelsher were announced the winners of the $750 scholarship by the Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation. Scholarships are awarded to individuals pursuing a career in the many health care fields.
Lin is seeking a career as a nurse practitioner, following her master’s degree at the Indiana State University. Following her studies, Lin will have earned the proper license to be employed as a nurse practitioner in Effingham County.
Hoelscher is currently part of the physical therapy doctorate program at the University of Missouri.
The Thomas J. Epplin Health Profession Scholarship has been made possible by the friends and family of Dr. Epplin, an Illinois resident. Epplin was born in Pinckneyville, Illinois, where he also grew up. He eventually pursued a career in dentistry in Vandalia, and also served as the president of the Fayette County Health Department. St. Anthony High School, which both Lin and Hoelscher attended, was also where Epplin’s own daughter attended high school.
Epplin is remembered for his love of education and desire that all students have the ability to pursue their own academic dreams.
