Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 59.3 percent of Gallatin High School's (GHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For GHS, its college enrollment rate remains unchanged since 2014.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at GHS in 2015 was 177; 47 (26.55 percent) were seniors.
Also according to ISBE, 15.9 percent of GHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, versus an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
Among high schools in Southeast Illinois, the class of 2015 college readiness rates at Goreville High School (39.5 percent), Harrisburg High School (38.2 percent), Herrin High School (36.3 percent), Pope County High School (34.1 percent), Johnston City High School (29.9 percent), Joppa Junior & Senior High School (21.4 percent), Christopher High (27.5 percent), Marion High School (42.4 percent) and Massac County High School (43.5 percent) were all higher than at GHS.
GHS students did better on reading (20.5 percent) and English (52.3 percent) and worse on math (15.9 percent) and science (18.2 percent).
Only 13.6 percent of GHS students were college ready in all four subjects, according to ISBE.
