New real estate tax portal offers online access to property information

Franklin co

Franklin County is introducing a new way for county taxpayers to access real estate tax information through the county’s website.

Taxpayers can visit www.franklincountyil.gov or go directly to franklinil.devnetwedge.com to view the real estate tax portal to pay taxes and much more.

“Taxpayers can look up and pay their current year taxes, and look up historical data,” Franklin County Treasurer John Gulley said. “They can see how much they paid in prior years, as well as the dates when those payments were made. This feature of the website will be particularly useful during income tax season when taxpayers are filling out their income tax returns.”

Gulley also encouraged visitors to the website to visit the taxing body distribution section.

“This feature includes an easy-to-read pie chart that shows property owners where their real estate tax dollars are going,” he said. “For example, I can look and see that 60.2 percent of my real estate tax payment is going to my local school district, 15.7 percent to the county, etc.”

Other features of the real estate tax information portal for property owners include the ability to look at assessment information, tax rates and legal descriptions.

Gulley reminded property owners who may be taken aback to find such detailed information readily available on the county’s website, that the information is actually public knowledge under Illinois’ Freedom of Information law.

“Under Illinois law, if a person walks in my office and wants to see the tax bill of any taxpayer in Franklin County, I have to provide it,” Gulley said. “This web portal gives added convenience to the taxpayers and makes the real estate tax process more transparent.”

Franklin County Treasurer John Gulley can be reached at 618-438-7311 for more information.
