Four Southern Illinois University (SIU) baseball players have made All-Star teams in their respective summer leagues.
Nick Hutchins, Connor Kopach and Greg Lambert made the Northwoods League All-Star team, while Ryan Smith made the West Coast League squad, according to the SIU website.
Hutchins and Kopach are two of five members of the Kalamazoo (Michigan) Growlers to make the squad. Hutchins, a catcher, was batting .324 with three homers and 23 RBIs, which are all team highs as of Tuesday morning, per the team's website. Kopach, an infielder, led the league in stolen bases with 23 and topped the Growlers with 30 runs. He was batting .291, according to PointStreak.com.
Lambert, an infielder for the Willmar (Minnesota) Stingers, was fifth in the league in runs scored (31) as of Tuesday morning, according to PointStreak.com. He's batting .297 with five homers and 11 doubles.
SIU is the only collegiate program with three Northwoods All-Star Game selections, according to the university's website. Hutchins, Kopach and Lambert each recently completed his sophomore season for the Salukis.
Smith, an outfielder for the Gresham (Oregon) GreyWolves, was tied for fourth in the league with 34 hits, tied for fifth in RBIs with 16 and was 10th in the league with a .315 batting average as of Tuesday morning, according to the league's website.
Smith recently completed his junior season at SIU.
Each league's All-Star game will take place on July 19. The West Coast League game gets underway at 5 p.m., while the Northwoods League game starts at 7 p.m.
