Dale Fowler, the Republican Senate candidate for the 59th District in Southern Illinois, is currently seeking volunteers to join his campaign.
Fowler called for volunteers through a post on Facebook, which reads as follows:
“Want to help get our state government working again? Sign up to volunteer with Dale's campaign today!”
Fowler, the current Mayor of Harrisburg, said he has a desire to serve the public, particularly in local government. He said it is embarrassing that Illinois has spent more than $900 million in penalties over the last six years because it has neglected to pay its bills on time.
“Can you imagine? You know how it is when somebody like you or me doesn’t pay our electric bill on time and gets stuck with a late fee? That makes the average person mad,” Fowler said. “But can you imagine $900 million? [Imagine] what would that do to help education? You might as well drive down the interstate and throw [the money] out the window. That’s all it’s good for.”
A recent report conducted by the Civic Federation, a government watchdog group, showed the wastefulness of the state government. If elected, Fowler has promised to help fix the problem.
