Southern Illinois cross-country runner Josh Maier has been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Men's Scholar-Athlete Team, according to siusalukis.com.
Maier, a sophomore from Alsip, is one of 22 members of the team. Qualifiers for the team must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2, finish in the top 20 individual placers at the conference meet and be at least a sophomore.
Maier finished in 13th place at the MVC Championships on Oct. 29 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, crossing the finish line in the 8K race in 25 minutes, 17.4 seconds. The mechanical-engineering major also has a 4.0 GPA. Only two other qualifying athletes also had a perfect grade point average.
Bradley University had the most selections to the men's Scholar-Athlete Team, with four. Bradley tied with Wichita State and Northern Iowa for the most selections to the women's team with three.
