Southern Illinois women's basketball guard Kylie Giebelhausen recently was honored as the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) female Scholar-Athlete of the Week, according to siusalukis.com.
Giebelhausen, a junior from East Peoria, averaged 18.5 points, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.5 steals per game in SIU's wins over Murray State and Purdue.
In the 70-63 win over Murray State on Nov. 17 at home, Giebelhausen had a career-high 22 points and made 4 of 7 three-point attempts. Against Purdue, she had 15 points, two steals and two blocks to lead the Salukis to a 64-61 win Nov. 20 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The last win SIU claimed over a Power 5 Conference team was in 1993.
As of Nov. 28, Giebelhausen led the Salukis in points per game, with 14.4; total three-pointers, with 15; total steals, with eight; and total blocks, with seven. She also has a 3.74 grade point average and is majoring in exercise science.
