Metropolis Police and Fire Committee approves budget items

The city of Metropolis Police and Fire Committee met Oct. 5 to approve budget items.

DATE: Wednesday, October 5, 2016

PLACE: Council Chambers in City Hall

Moved by Alderman Buford McGuire and Second Chuck Short by Alderman to make a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 8-17-2016 as presented;

MOTION CARRIED:

Chief Masse asked for the following motions that have been approved in the 2016-2017 budget.

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and Second by Alderman David McManus to recommend to the full Council to take action on the purchase of a new dodge Charger from Linwood Motors including equipment in the approximate amount of $35,000;

Chief Masse informed the Committee he added one Taser for the Abatement Officer and was offered 5 year free interest payments in the amount of $7,874.00.

Moved by Alderman Buford McGuire and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to recommend to the full Council to take action on the purchase of 15 Tasers in the approximate amount of $39,370.00 from Taser International (5 year interest free installments of 7,874.00) ;

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to recommend to the full Council to take action on the new radios, lapel mics and holsters from Jackson Purchase 2 Way Inc., in the approximate amount of $16,995.00;

The next two motions were an administration decision but were made to show support from the Committee. The following motions are at no cost to the City and on a voluntary basis.

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to recommend to the full Council to take action on a Police Chaplain program;
