Metropolis City Council establishes an Enterprise Zone within the city

Metropolis City Council met Monday, Nov. 14.

The City of Metropolis City Council is located at 106 W 5th St, Metropolis, IL 62960.

Here are the minutes as provided by Metropolis:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Alderpersons were present: Alderman Don Canada, David McManus, Mike Hall, Buford McGuire, Chuck Short, Charles Barfield, John Taylor, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell and Mayor McDaniel, City Clerk Jan Adams, and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Alderman Jerry Mizell was absent.

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance followed with prayer led by Mayor William McDaniel.

Moved by Alderman Mike Hall and second by Alderman Chuck Short a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 10-24-2016 as presented;

MAYOR REPORT:

The Mayor commented how nice the uptown buildings are looking after our business owners are taking advantage of the improvement grants the City offered. The sidewalks are the next project and will bring back the cost for approval. The downtown area is our next grant project the Mayor added.

Moved by Alderman David McManus and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to make a motion to accept Pay Application No 3 for the Metropolis WWTP Influent Mechanical Fine Screen Replacement in the amount of $18,174.37 to Design-Builder’s;

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

He handed out an Ordinance Renewal of Comcast Cable Franchise to review and bring back to the next Council for approval. They have submitted an application for renewal. Upon receipt of application and filing fee we will give notice that the application is made public. A copy will be for viewing at the Metropolis Library and the Chamber of Commerce. We will give notice at City Council for public comment to be accepted. Upon hearing comments consider approval of the application. Following approval, take the proposed agreement and make it public and set a date for a public hearing and publish notice of that hearing. A Resolution will be approved after hearing in City Council after approving the proposed agreement.

WATER, LIGHT & STREET:

An update given by Doug Hawes on the manhole replacement on Marberry Drive; we have all our information and now waiting on cost from the contractor. We will bring back to Council for a motion for approval at a later date.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman David McManus made a motion to accept the purchase of an effluent flowmeter with sensors from Heartland Controls in the amount of $1,933.00 for the WWTP;
