Southeastern CUSD board adopts 2016 tax levy

The Southeastern Community Unit School District # 337 Board of Education met Dec. 12 to adopt the 2016 tax levy.

Minutes of Regular Meeting

December 12, 2016 6:30 p.m.

The following minutes are tentative and will not become official minutes of the Board of Education until their scheduled approval at the next regular meeting.

Call to Order and Roll Call The Southeastern Community Unit District #337 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, December 12, 2016 in the Board of Education Office in Augusta, Illinois. Mark Cox, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

Roll Call verified that there was a quorum of the Board of Education with the following members present and absent as listed below:

Approval of Agenda Items on a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Ramsey, the Board of Education approved the agenda items as presented. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Cox, Eilers, Holst, Ramsey, Smith, Stephens Nay: None Absent: Bruenger Motion Carried

On a motion by Member Eilers and a second by Member Ramsey, the Board of Education opened the public hearing on the 2016 Truth in Taxation Hearing at 6:31 p.m. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Eilers, Holst, Ramsey, Smith, Stephens, Cox Nay: None Absent: Bruenger Motion Carried

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Smith, the Board of Education closed the public hearing on the 2016 Truth in Taxation Hearing at 6:36 p.m. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Holst, Ramsey, Smith, Stephens, Cox, Eilers Nay: None Absent: Bruenger Motion Carried

On a motion by Member Eilers and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education adopted the 2016 Tax Levy request as presented in the amount of $2,711,905. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Ramsey, Smith, Stephens, Cox, Eilers, Holst Nay: None Absent: Bruenger Motion Carried

Approval of Minutes On a motion by Member Ramsey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education approved the minutes from the November 21, 2016 regular meeting and closed session as presented. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Smith, Stephens, Cox, Eilers, Holst, Ramsey Nay: None Absent: Bruenger Motion Carried

Public Participation None

Special Recognition Superintendent Fox presented the update on the Board Excellence site: West Central Conference volleyball, Quincy Herald Whig first and second team (volleyball), Quincy Herald Whig Volleyball Player of the Year, Tim Kerr – Coach of the Year, All State Honor Choir; 8th grade boys’ basketball team and coach nominated for IESA Good Sport Report.

Financial Superintendent Fox presented the monthly financial snapshot showing we are 42% into the fiscal year. We have received 61% of our budgeted revenue and have spent 42% of budgeted expenditures. The state owes us $72,877.00.

On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Ramsey, the Board of Education approved the bills, financial statements, and activity funds. Roll Call Vote:

Informational Items

Superintendent Fox reported on the air conditioning for the Bowen building.

Superintendent Fox reported on the 2017 school board election.

Superintendent Fox discussed the cooperative agreements with Camp Point Central.

Superintendent Fox presented the 2016 RIF Joint Annual Committee Agreement.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the open positions for 2017-2018.

Superintendent Fox reviewed the banking agreement with Bowen Bank of Advance.

Administrative reports were given with Mrs. Akers reporting on programs to help assess student performance and supplement curriculum.

Action Items On a motion by Member Ramsey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education approved the additional compensation of 0.4% due to the TRS rate change. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Bruenger, Cox, Eilers, Holst, Ramsey, Smith, Stephens Nay: None Absent: None Motion Carried

On a motion by Member Ramsey and a second by Member Stephens, the Board of Education moved into closed session at 7:24 p.m. for the purpose of the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. Roll Call Vote: Aye: Cox, Eilers, Holst, Ramsey, Smith, Stephens, Bruenger Nay: None Absent: None Motion Carried

The Hancock County Facilities Tax was discussed and no motion was made.

Adjournment On a motion by Member Stephens and a second by Member Ramsey, the Board of Education voted to adjourn the meeting at 7:39 p.m. Voice Vote Motion Carried
