Southeastern Illinois College forensics team wins big at speech tournament

The Southeastern Illinois College (SIC) Forensic Falcons took home more than 30 awards at a speech tournament on Jan. 21 at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.

Eight of the SIC Forensic Falcons members competed against 15 northern Illinois colleges.


The SIC Forensics team: Cassidy Maynard, Gabe Motsinger, Carrier Mills, Kaydee Dycus, Chanse Tullis, Carrice McDaniel, Shannon Welker, Shay Wood, Joli Murphy beat out Northern Illinois schools at a speech tournament | SIC Forensics Team

The Falcons placed first in team sweepstakes in the junior varsity division and third in the varsity division.

Cassidy Maynard of Harrisburg placed first in individual sweepstakes in the varsity and junior varsity division, making her the top speaker at the tournament.

Also achieving champion status, Kaydee Dycus earned tournament champion in a junior varsity speech to entertain. Chanse Tullis won tournament champion in junior varsity communication analysis.

The junior varsity division was only available to community colleges, while the varsity division was open to four-year institutions. The SIC Forensic Falcons placed above Northwestern University, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Harper College and Moraine Valley Community College.

The Falcons team -- consisting of Maynard, Gabe Motsinger, Carrier Mills, Dycus, Tullis, Carrice McDaniel, Shannon Welker, Shay Wood and Joli Murphy -- placed high in all contests.
