Marion native Cassie Brooke has been named the head golf coach and assistant athletic director at Morthland College in West Frankfort, according to a news release on the school's website.
Brooke will be in charge of the women's and men's golf programs; she will be the first to coach both teams. The inaugural season of varsity play at Morthland starts this fall.
After a career at Marion High School that included state meet placings as well as conference and regional titles, Brooke moved on to Southern Illinois in Carbondale. She holds the record for the best stroke average for women's golf there at 77.1 per round, and was a four-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a Saluki.
Brooke competed on the professional Suncoast Tour from March 2014 to April 2015 before injuries ended her run.
As assistant athletic director, Brooke will handle logistical and eligibility duties.
