Vienna City Council addresses trash pickup concerns

The Vienna City Council met Jan. 18 to address trash pickup concerns.

The City Council of the City of Vienna met in regular session, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Vienna City Hall with the following members and guest:

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS PRESENT: Jon Simmons, Mayor Alan Racey, Alderman Cheryl Myrick, Alderwoman Jim Evans. Alderman Melissa Hill, Alderwoman Chesley Williams, Alderman Richard Owen, Alderman Aleatha Wright, City Clerk Shane Racey, City Superintendent Jim Miller, Police Chief Brent Williams, Fire Chief Margaret Mathis, City Librarian

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALSABSENT: Josh Stratemeyer, City Attorney

GUESTS PRESENT: Marissa Jackson

There being a quorum, Mayor Simmons called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at 6:30 p.m.

Alderman Owen made a motion to approve the Omnibus Consent Agenda consisting of the Treasurer Reports from October, November, and December, 2016, minutes from the January 4, 2017 City Council Meeting and the Warrant ($95,641.05). Alderman Racey seconded the motion. The vote was as follows: Hill-aye, Evans- aye, Myrick-aye, Owen- aye, Racey-aye, and Williams- aye. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS

Alderman Evans made a motion to Authorize and Approve funds for repair and maintenance to fencing around pump station on Fairless Rd. $1,418.00, Terrace Fence Company. The motion was seconded by Alderman Williams. Motion carried. All present in favor.

Alderman Racey made a motion to Authorize and Approve Little Egypt Shows to hold the annual Spring Fling at the Vienna City Park May 4-6th, 2017. The motion was seconded by Alderwoman Myrick. Motion carried. All present in favor.

City Elected and Appointed Officials

Mayor Simmons introduced Marissa Jackson who was present as a visitor on behalf of Brandon Phelps office.

Clerk, Wright told council that she had obtained the quote for the city's population to be added to the four city Welcome signs for around $200.00 including the installation fee from wesley's custom graphics. Council was in consent. Wright also handed out economic interest lists to council to be filed with the county.

Fire Chief, Williams informed council that seven from the department would be attending the upcoming winter fire School training in Champaign, IL.

Phil Morris, Depot, informed council that family counseling would be taking over the Fall Fest since the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce no longer exists.

Diana Steele, Administrative Assistant presented council with October, November, and December's 2016 treasurer reports. Steele reviewed all city accounts with up to date balances as well as all certificate of deposits with council.

Alderwoman Myrick mentioned concerns of city trash pickup. Mayor Simmons said he had contacted the supervisor at Bulldog.

Alderman Williams mentioned checking the rate for the recent electricity aggregation. Williams also mentioned possible grant opportunities for park projects.

Williams briefly spoke about the debriefing session that took place at the fire department pertaining to the recent plane crash.

Williams mentioned discussing public works wages since city account balances were now up to date.

Alderwoman Hill asked about vendors at the Spring Fling event. Discussion took place. Council decided to allow vendors on a first come first serve basis at no charge.

As there was no further business to discuss Alderman Owen made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Alderman Evans. Motion carried.

Mayor Simmons declared the meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
