Gov. Bruce Rauner has activated the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Springfield to help ensure the state is prepared to help, with local emergency response teams following tornadoes this week.
“Activating the State Emergency Operations Center will ensure we’re ready to act quickly if any local responders need our assistance,” Rauner said in a release on the state's website. “With severe weather expected for several more hours across the state, we will maintain our readiness to support first responders wherever needed.”
Workers from various state organizations will report to the SEOC. State officials are assessing storm impact and damage, then communicating with local response crews to determine whether help is needed on the state level to ensure safety for those within the affected regions.
The SEOC will stay activated as long as deemed necessary.
