Morthland College is searching for a new head football coach in the wake of Mike Popovich's resignation.
According to an article on the school's athletics website, Popovich — who became the head coach in February 2016 — announced his resignation to Athletic Director Reid Cure on Jan. 31. Popovich cited a desire to spend more time with family as the main reason for his resignation.
Popovich guided the Patriots to a 7-3 record in its first season with a full varsity schedule. Morthland led the National Christian College Athletic Association with an average of 39.5 points per game as well as average yards allowed per contest. Quarterback Dennis Chester, who was recruited by Popovich, finished third in the NCCAA in passing yards per game.
The school has not set a timeline for replacing Popovich, and is accepting resumes and cover letters from candidates. Contact Cure by emailing to rcure@morthland.edu.
