Chester High School named former co-offensive coordinator Billy Belton to the head coaching position of its football team, the school announced recently.
Former head coach Jeremy Blechle stepped down to go after an open athletic director position at the school, and the school board decided that maintaining some continuity in the coaching staff was the best route. Belton has been with the team for 10 years.
As the offensive coordinator, Belton was responsible for the implementation of the offensive system and game plan, so he was mostly behind the scenes designing plays and taking a look at opposing defenses. He'll now bring that experience and knowledge to the head coaching position, hoping to build on the success the Yellow Jackets have had. They finished 6-3 last year.
In addition to coaching football, Belton helps coach the Chester baseball team.
