The Southern Illinois Miners picked two infielders in the 2017 Frontier League Draft on April 25 in Sauget, the team announced recently.

The Miners took third baseman Ryan O'Malley with the 12th and last pick of the first round and shortstop Chris Amato with the 24th and last pick of the second round.

O'Malley played for the Danville Braves in the Atlanta Braves system last year after being drafted by the Braves in the 25th round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. O'Malley batted .188 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 42 games last year for Danville.

In his career at Kean University in New Jersey, Amato had a .345 batting average and 28 RBIs in 110 games, and also made 38 appearances, including eight starts, as a pitcher with a 12-7 record, five saves and a 3.33 earned-run average.
