Harrisburg Public Library District Board of Trustees met March 14.
Here is the minutes as provided by the board:
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Harrisburg Public Library District was called to order by President
Lynda Clemmons at 4:06 pm. Those in attendance were Trustees Joe Ewing, Lynda Clemmons, Janet Jones, Sally
Wofford, Leigh Leckron, Amy Brombaugh and Gary Jones. Also in attendance was Director Krystal Gulley.
Consent Agenda: A motion was made by Trustee Ewing to accept the consent agenda as presented. The motion carried
unanimously on a roll call vote.
President’s Report:
- President Clemmons suggested that Julie may want to look into “Family Medical Leave” act.
- Said the programs last month had good numbers with Brown Bag & Books having 42 in attendance while the
Jesse Rouse Art Reception had over 70 people in attendance.
- The Winter Reading Challenge was great.
- The March Brown Bags & Books is March 22, with the Harrisburg High School Book Club doing the
presenting.
- President Clemmons reminded everyone that there is a new art exhibit by David Powell up in the Alice Barns
Room. The art reception will be on April 23rd
.- She and Director Gulley attended the Legislator Meeting in Mt. Vernon. Stated that our new State Senator,
Dale Fowler, was the best speaker.
- She stated that the ILA strongly opposed the proposed property tax freeze.
- Stated that Celebrity Reader program is being held on April 5th
.Committee Reports:
Building Committee: Trustee Ewing reported that the kitchen has been cleaned and looks much more inviting.
He thanked Director Gulley for seeing that that has been accomplished. Also, Architect Baker was going to
provide addition information for us at this meeting, but was apparently detained elsewhere.
Policy Committee: Trustee Janet Jones indicated that her committee would look into a drafting a policy
regarding absentees for Trustees.
There were no other committee reports.
Director’s Report:
- The Board agreed to up our bandwidth with Clearwave when our contract expires in July.
- Director Gulley has learned that she will not be able to attend the Director’s University at the State Library
as it will be a conflict with her on line courses.
- The Board agreed that the purchase of a new copy machine should be tabled at this time. Should the
current copy machine break down and parts not be available, replacement will be considered at that time.
- The Board agreed that the donation of the car collection of Dr. VanHeusen could be accepted as a historical
display of the car industry of this area. Director Gulley will work with him to facilitate this transfer.
- The Board agreed that we could not act as a storage facility for the DAR scrapbooks as proposed by Sharon
Pyle.
- The Board agreed that a patron could hold a sale of Pink Zebra at the Library with the proper room fee being
collected.
A motion was made by Trustee Janet Jones to adjourn at 5:15 pm.
