City of Metropolis City Council met March 27.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 8, 2017, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Alderpersons were present: Alderman Chad Lewis, Don Canada, Mike Hall, John Taylor, Chuck Short, Charles Barfield, Buford McGuire, Darryl Neill, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell and Mayor McDaniel, City Clerk Jan Adams, and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

Moved by Alderman Buford McGuire and second by Alderman Chad Lewis a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 4-24-2017 as presented;

Citizens Report:

Danny Miller came before the Council after his property was abated and cleaned by the city. He inquired where his possessions are and voiced his opinion how he felt he and his mother were wronged. He was told to come to City Hall during opening hours and will be shown pictures as to why the yard was abated.

Mayor’s Report:

The Mayor gave recognition for Public Service Week as we honor men and women who serve America as federal, state, county and local government employees.

Moved by Alderman Buford McGuire and second by Alderman Don Canada to accept recommendation to accept Dave Miller as a member of the Metropolis Public Library Board of Trustees;

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

Corporate Counsel reminded the newly elected Alderman along with newly elected board members they need to take the required FOIA and Open Meetings Act.

Stanley Shinn asked for his Special Use Permit be granted and allowed to bring a mobile home to his property at 601 Johnson. The area is zoned industrial and the recommendation by the Zoning Board was to say no to the request.

Moved by Alderman Chuck Short and Second by Alderman Charles Barfield to make a motion to Suspend the Rules and place Ordinance Denying a Special Use Permit in accordance with the recommendations of the Zoning Board of Appeals for passage upon approval of the motion;
