Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Alderpersons were present: Alderman Don Canada, Mike Hall, John Taylor, Chuck Short, Charles Barfield, Buford McGuire, Darryl Neill, and Mayor McDaniel, City Clerk Jan Adams, and concerned citizens of Metropolis. Corporate Counsel Rick Abell and Alderman Chad Lewis were absent.

Moved by Alderman Mike Hall and second by Alderman Chuck Short a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 5-8-2017 as presented;

Mayor’s Report:

The Metropolis City Pool will open Monday, May 29, 2017 for the 2017 season. We invite all to come and enjoy in the fun.

A Water, Light & Street meeting will be scheduled for June 7th, 2017.

HMG will hold a pre-bid meeting Tuesday, May 23, 2017 for the contractors answering questions for the 12th Street project.

Moved by Alderman Don Canada and second by Alderman Charles Barfield to accept recommendation to accept road closure for the Superman Celebration beginning at 5 pm on Wednesday, June 7th and remain closed through 7 pm Sunday, June 11th – the streets included are Market Street from the Superman Statue through the alley between 8th and 9th Streets, on 7th Street blocking from the parking lot drive of the Fire Station to the backside of Hillebrand’s Automotive, on 8th Street, from the backside of the Fire Station area to the drive thru at (old) Banterra Bank, on 6th Street from the driveway of the detention center to the drive thru of Mid Country;

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and second by Alderman Mike Hall to make a motion to accept quote from Cardinal Pump in the amount of $11,439.00 for repairs to the High Service Pump at the Water Filtration Plant;

The Mayor gave an update and pricing on the uptown bathrooms. We have contracted Reed Electric for the heating/air for the bathrooms in the amount of $2,900 (installation included). The floors, walls, sinks and toilets are installed. The portable handicap accessible ramp will be inhouse work and hope to be completed by the annual Superman Celebration.

to make a motion to accept expenditures on plumbing fixtures and other finishing supplies for the public restroom;

Stan Pollard out of Calvert City, KY will do the repairs on the Public Works Ford 350 truck.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and second by Alderman Mike Hall to make a motion to approve expenditure on truck repair;

The surveillance cameras have been ordered for Public Works, UCC and the uptown bathrooms.

Department Heads:

Pris Abell requested a pool vacuum not on the agenda and was told to order and bring back the cost.

Financial Report:

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and second by Alderman Buford McGuire to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills;

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and second by Alderman Darryl Neill to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of miscellaneous bills:
