City of Metropolis Water/Light/Street Committee met Feb. 8.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman David McManus to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 1-18-2017 as presented;

Frank Walsh requested the following motion for Matt Holt upon his 1 year anniversary.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman David McManus to recommend to the full Council to take action for the Wastewater Operator Certification Training and testing for Matt Holt from the Environmental Resources Training C enter at SIUE Class to be held from May 22nd-26th, 2017 with travel time from May 21st-26th, 2017. Total costs for travel, lodging, meals and class not to exceed $1,900.00;

No motion was needed to repair the damage claim from sewer separation work next to Fat Edd’s. We can fix this in house within the Mayors spending cap. When the final cost for the repairs are calculated, we will bring back to Committee.

JK came before the Committee with information on the new Senate Bill (SB550), Preventing Lead in Drinking Water Bill, passed Monday, January 16th, 2017. The law was designated to protect children by testing their drinking water for lead. The rules are to include testing requirements, training requirements, and notification of results. Community water systems are to complete a comprehensive inventory of lead service lines in their system by April 15, 2018 and update that information annually. They are to notify potentially affected residences of construction or repair work on water mains, lead services lines, or water meters at could potentially increase lead levels in drinking water. Notification is not required if the inventory shows that the water system being worked on is lead-free.

Moved by Alderman Charles Barfield and Second by Alderman David McManus to recommend to the full Council to take action on the Marberry Drive Sanitary Sewer Replacement Proposal in the amount of $34,000 from ACIX;

The Right of Way Permit for Clearwave Communications was discussion only. Clearwave has requested permission to construct/install, operate and maintain a new fiber optic cable along multiple streets in the City of Metropolis. The cable will be placed crossing and/or along the following rights-of-ways under the jurisdiction of the City of Metropolis.

Doug Hawes with HMG stated the 12th Street Sewer project has been sent off for permits and will go out for bids. The construction and repairs will begin June of this year. He also informed them the bar-screens and plumbing at WWTP are finished. The epoxy will be applied followed by the screens to start back up. The Sewer Separation project is coming along and we are monitoring it daily.

The Electronic Recycling is Saturday, March 4th, 2017 from 8am-3pm at 300 Front Street. This is for our city residents only and will need to provide ID. We will have two trucks available to accept recycle goods. A list of items will be in the City Clerk’s and Mayor’s office. Tires are the only things not accepted.
