The Southern Illinois University volleyball team will go up against some powerhouse opponents this year, including five teams that made the NCAA tournament last season, according to the Salukis' recently released schedule.
Luckily for new head coach Kari Thompson, the Salukis have experience on their side. Nine letter winners are returning to the court this year, and the team is hoping to improve on its 21-12 record from last season.
The Salukis will open their season on Aug. 25-26 in the Miami-Ohio Tournament at the University of Miami-Ohio. Their first opponent is the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, who were Conference USA champions last year.
SIU's first home game is on Aug. 27, when Arkansas State University comes to SIU Arena. Conference play begins on Sept. 22, when the Salukis travel to Bradley University, and ends on Nov. 18 against Valparaiso.
The Missouri Valley Conference tournament will begin on November 23 at Illinois State University.
