Sean O’Brien is willing to cross an ocean to play pro basketball.
The 6-foot-7 Mundelein native just finished his college career at Southern Illinois University (SIU) and has agreed to play for Korihait, a professional team in Finland. The team is based in the southwestern town of Uusikaupunki.
Although O’Brien had a few offers from other European teams, including one from a Swiss squad, he decided Korihait would be the best fit for him as a player, according to an SIU press release.
In his final season at SIU, O’Brien had nine double-doubles, finished second on the team in scoring and led the team in rebounding, averaging 8.5 a game. In a game against Indiana State University, O’Brien scored a career-high 28 points.
