David Templeton has been named Citizen of the Year by the Carmi Chamber of Commerce, according to a press release.
The owner of Hale Body Shop, Templeton was feted as the 2017 honoree based on his community service and hands-on involvement with local organizations such as the Gideons and the Carmi Lions Club and as an investor in the White County CEO Program.
Templeton, who is heavily involved with a local church, is also the former president of the Carmi Chamber of Commerce.
A longtime area resident who has taken on the added responsibility of organizing an annual Thanksgiving dinner for community residents, Templeton was nominated for the award in a letter that hailed him as someone who “has a servant mentality and is not interested in being publicly recognized for his service.”
The night was also one to remember for Nancy Winter, a CPA who earned the Small Business of the Year award. Winter and her staff were recognized for their commitment to community outreach programs such as the White County CEO program and the annual Corn Day event.
Outgoing Chamber of Commerce President Andy Acord was also honored for his years of service, and the Illinois Sheriffs' Association and White County Ambulance Service saluted Hayley Fulkerson for performing CPR during a class tour that saved a life.
First Bank was saluted with the Large Business of the Year award for community involvement that included participating in program and events that included The Giving Tree, White County CEO program, No Child Left Hungry and the Reindeer Run.
The honors were bestowed at First Christian Church in Carmi.
