Illinois FFA Foundation and Illinois 4-H Foundation recently received checks for $60,000 from Dakota Access Pipeline to benefit local youth in the 12 Illinois counties in which pipeline traverses along its 1,172-mile-long underground way, according to a Nov. 1 release.
Dakota Access, which presented the checks Nov. 2 in Jacksonville, is providing each organization $5,000 per county in which the pipeline traverses: Adams, Hancock, Schuyler, Brown, Pike, Scott, Morgan, Macoupin, Montgomery, Fayette, Bond, and Marion, the release said.
Dakota Access plans to make similar donations in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa totaling more than $400,000 as part of its effort to support youth programs in counties along the four-state pipeline route, according to the release.
“We are very appreciative of Dakota Access supporting the future of Illinois through its youth and we look forward to seeing the 12 counties put the funds toward new and creative ideas related to science, hands-on education and learning,” Illinois 4-H Foundation Executive Director Angie Barnard said in the release.
The grant will provide the 17,307 members of Illinois FFA opportunities at the local and state level to develop leadership skills and prepare for their futures, Katie Burns, Illinois FFA Foundation communications specialist, said in the release.
