Breakfast with Santa was a holly, jolly good time at the Southeastern Illinois College campus.
On Dec. 2, some 300 people showed up to gobble up some pancakes and hang around with Santa. Other attractions, like story time, science experiments, a place to take selfies, face painting, crafts, coloring and the Santa photo opportunity made the event fun for the children, said organizers.
“We love putting this event on for the community, and we look forward to it every year,” said Maddison Maloney, co-coordinator of the event, in a recent news release. “Getting to watch the children’s faces light up when they see Santa was a pleasure and truly helped us get into the Christmas spirit!”
There was some serious stuff, too. In fact, the morning raised nearly $1,000 for scholarships and student support, according to a recent SIC news release.
Children also had the opportunity to drop St. Nick a letter in the Magical Mailbox, organizers said.
Many college clubs and volunteers helped out with the breakfast. Credit is also due to Tim Mitchell of Harrisburg, who played St. Nick.
