Pope County Community Unit School District No. 1 recently hosted members of the Illinois State Board of Education.

The board members visited the campus Nov. 28 to discuss the improvement plan for the school as well as the IL-Empower initiative and its part in the Every Student Succeeds Act, according to a district press release.

Pope County CUSD No. 1 is a pilot district for the process and final product for the State Board of Education, the release said. As such, data culled from the district will be employed by the Board of Education to establish a process for moving forward with the program, along with data from other pilot districts in the state. Also, Pope County will lead area schools as they traverse the process.

The ESSA State Plan was authorized on Aug. 29, the State Board of Education website said.

While in the district, State Board of Education members also met with school student-council members, the release said.
