City of Carmi City Council met January 2.

Here is the minutes as provided by the council:

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Room of the Municipal Building, 225 East Main Street.


Prior to opening the council meeting, Mayor Pollard asked Alderman Winkleman to give the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Mayor Pollard presided with the following Aldermen present: Steve Winkleman, Mark W. Blake, Jeremy Courson, Tracy Nelson, Sheila Jo Headlee, Mike Knight, and Doug Hays. Absent: Lance Yearby

Minutes from the December 19, 2017, council meeting were presented. Motion was made by Alderman Hays and seconded by Alderman Courson to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

Mayor Pollard asked the council to consider Ordinance #1541: An ordinance adopting a policy prohibiting sexual harassment for the City of Carmi, which supersedes all prior sexual harassment ordinances. A motion was made by Alderman Winkleman to adopt ordinance #1541; An ordinance adopting a policy prohibiting sexual harassment for the City of Carmi, which supersedes all prior sexual harassment ordinances. The motion was seconded by Alderman Blake. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

Mayor Pollard asked the council for authorization to seek bids on farming the airport property on a cash-rent basis. Discussion was held regarding the City property at the airport. Alderman Knight stated the land had previously been farmed by Larry Beck who has retired. Mayor Pollard stated he had contacted Don Davis, foremen of Disposal Plant, asking him to determine how much of the property would be utilized for the sludge pit area. Mr. Davis is collecting this information for Mayor Pollard. After discussion, Alderman Winkleman made a motion to seek bids for farming the airport property on a cash-rent basis with a contract period of 2 years and the City reserves the right to reject any and all bids. The motion was seconded by Alderman Nelson. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”

The Mayor reminded everyone of the electronic recycling event planned for Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Newton Wire and Cable Building.

Adjournment

At 5:39 p.m. Alderman Headlee made a motion to adjourn. Motion was seconded by Alderman Hays. The motion carried on roll call by each Alderman present answering “yes.”
