City of Albion City Council met February 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the Council:

The Albion City Council met in regular session on Feb 19, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. in the Albion City Hall. Mayor John Henze called the meeting to order and led Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Present- Pat Hemming, Eric Eirikson, Eric Schmidt, Kim Dostal, and absent Jordan Hinkle.

Dostal moved to approve the agenda and Hemming seconded it. Motion passed 4-0

Eirikson moved to approve the consent agenda and was seconded by Dostal. The consent agenda consisted of regular minutes from Jan 15, 2018, minutes from two special meetings on Feb 7, 2018 at 1:30 & at 6:30, approval claims for payment, and financial reports. Motion passed 4-0.

Guest speaker Ken Fleege from RACOM rescheduled for Feb 26, 2018 @ 6:30 due to weather.

Eric Schmidt gave the public safety report stating the Directors Board is scheduled for Feb 27, 2018. Schmidt also attended the Annual Fire Fighters Foundation meeting,

Deputy Ihde gave the Sheriff’s report. There were no questions from the council or public.

Evan McRill gave the Fire Department report stating that the Annual Fire Fighters Foundation meeting was well represented by our Townships. There was talk at the meeting regarding the Albion Masonic Temple. Doug Betts is doing some checking on the feasibility of the F.D. acquiring the Masonic Building. The Fire Department is asking for donations for their building addition.

Doug Loffgren gave the First Responder report stating that 3 members will be attending a CPR refresher course and asked the council for a check for the training fees in the amount of $130.50.

Rhonda Guy was not present for the meeting due to the weather. Pat Hemming for the water committee asked about the pump that needs built, Loffgren stated that bids were being taken.

Julia Ohrt gave the Library attendance report.

Nothing to report for Parks and Rec. However, the Betterment Committee will need help painting playground equipment when their Paint Iowa Beautiful grant comes in.

Eric Eirikson for the street department stated that there is flooding in the streets due to thawing of snow and recent rain. He is working on residential issues regarding this matter.

Doug Loffgren for City Maintenance had nothing to report.

A motion by Hemming to approve the Mayor, or an appointee of the Mayor, per each committee, to receive a $20.00 payment for meetings attended for each individual committee in lieu of a mileage stipend. Motion seconded by Dostal. Motion passed 4-0.

A motion by Eirikson and seconded by hemming to approve setting of the public hearing for budget estimate FY18-19 for March 5, 2018 at 6:30. Motion passed 4-0

Updated information regarding the following topic was given to the council by City Clerk: Staggered Election – will be considered a special election, Filing Cabinets – 3 locking used were purchased for $30.00, ACC Demo – grinding brick and concrete and using it for fill.

Public Comments were opened. Karen Betts stated the following: Albion Betterment Committee is taking applications for their annual scholarship due on April 13, 2018, A spaghetti dinner will be had on March 22, 2018 from 4:30-7:00 to raise money for a new community building, An alumni picture for Albion Community School will be taken on May 5th, 2018, Albion Pride Days will be held on June 1-2, 2018. The Community Task force is interested in a mission statement for their committee.

Dostal motioned and Hemming seconded for adjournment of the meeting. Motion passed 4-0. Meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
