Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The regular meeting of the Jasper School Board of Education was called to order by Board President Blaine Norton and Derek Demaret taking the minutes, on January 15, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. with following board members present:

Present at the hearing: Blaine Norton, Chris Otey, Eric Gruen, Rennie Cates, Lachelle

Thompson & Derek Demaret

Absent at the hearing: Chris Barbre

The consent agenda, which includes minutes of previous regular board meeting, executive session, bills and payrolls were then approved on a motion by Eric Gruen and seconded by Chris Otey. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – absent

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Rennie Cates and seconded by Chris Otey to approve the FY18 faculty-staff seniority lists as presented. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Eric Gruen and seconded by Rennie Cates to approve the superintendent to apply for the Federal Impact Aid Grant FY 2018. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Chris Otey and seconded by Lachelle Thompson to adopt the new Federal Internal Revenue Service’s mileage rate of 54.5¢ per mile for the calendar year 2018. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Eric Gruen and seconded by Lachelle Thompson to accept the abatement & extension of general obligation bonds in the 18-19 levy cycle as presented. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made Lachelle Thompson and seconded by Rennie Cates to eliminate executive session minutes from July 2015. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Lachelle Thompson and seconded by Eric Gruen to go into executive session at 6:35 p.m. The purpose for the executive session was for the discussion of appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees. The motion was passed with all board members present voting “yes”.

A motion was made by Lachelle Thompson and seconded by Chris Otey to adopt resolution on confidentiality of prior closed session audio tapes and written minutes which is to have the executive session minutes to remain closed from July through December 2017. The votes were follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A motion was made by Rennie Cates and seconded by Chris Otey to go out of executive session at 6:45 p.m. The votes were as follows:

Blaine Norton – yes Lachelle Thompson – yes

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes

Rennie Cates – yes

A final motion was made by Rennie Cates and seconded by Lachelle Thompson to adjourn at 6:52 p.m. The votes were as follows:

Chris Otey –yes Chris Barbre – absent

Eric Gruen – yes Derek Demaret – yes
