Hamilton County Community Unit School District 10 students suspended, expelled 198 times in a single school year

Hamilton County Community Unit School District 10 reported one expulsions and 197 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 198 students during the year. That equates to 15.7 percent of the 1,260 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 175 in-school suspensions, 146 were given to boys and 29 were given to girls, including 79 elementary or middle schoolers and 96 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 147 incidents. There were 17 incidents of violence that caused physical injury. For 150 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 17 incidents. There were three incidents of drugs. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
