Carrier Mills Stonefort Community Unit School District 2 students suspended 214 times in a single school year

Carrier Mills Stonefort Community Unit School District 2 reported 214 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 214 students during the year. That equates to 47.6 percent of the 450 students enrolled.

Of the 116 in-school suspensions, 99 were given to boys and 17 were given to girls, including 46 elementary or middle schoolers and 70 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 109 incidents. There were seven incidents of violence without physical injury. For 113 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 98 out-of-school suspensions, 83 were given to boys and 15 were given to girls, including 46 elementary or middle schoolers and 52 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 87 incidents. There were 11 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 66 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
