Wabash Community Unit School District 348 students suspended, expelled 246 times in a single school year

Wabash Community Unit School District 348 reported one expulsions and 245 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 246 students during the year. That equates to 16.1 percent of the 1,531 students enrolled.

Students were expelled for one incident with unspecified reasons.

Of the 220 in-school suspensions, 135 were given to boys and 85 were given to girls, including 91 elementary or middle schoolers and 129 high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 214 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For 184 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 25 out-of-school suspensions, including 12 elementary or middle schoolers and 13 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 12 incidents. There were eight incidents of violence without physical injury. For 10 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
