Edwards County Community Unit School District 1 students suspended 49 times in a single school year

Edwards County Community Unit School District 1 reported 49 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

The district transferred one students to another program instead of suspending or expelling them.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 49 students during the year. That equates to 5.2 percent of the 938 students enrolled.

Of the 42 in-school suspensions, all were given to boys.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 26 incidents. There were nine incidents of violence without physical injury. For 38 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes three incidents. There were two incidents of violence without physical injury. For three incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
