The father of state House candidate Patrick Windhorst has penned a response to several attack ads against his son alleging he will “turn his back” on veterans.
“My father is a veteran and he has something to say regarding my opponents’ shameful lies about our nation’s heroes,” Windhorst wrote on Facebook.
The 118th House District candidate also posted a link to his father's article.
Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Harrisburg)
In an open letter to voters, Leonard Windhorst denies claims Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Harrisburg) has circulated in mailers and TV ads that assert Windhorst will deny veterans “lifesaving medical treatments.”
“I believe that anyone who would use the lives of veterans as political pawns — especially when the claims put forth are untrue — shows behavior that is less than honorable and lacks the integrity and character we all expect of our elected officials,” Leonard wrote.
Pointing out that his son comes from a military family (his grandfather also served), Leonard said the attack ads provoked an almost visceral reaction.
“Every time I receive a mailer like this I feel the sharp pain of a stranger declaring that my own son would turn his back on me and his family’s heritage of service to country,” he wrote. “It hurts because I know it’s not true and because it’s painful to realize there are people in this world who would dare write those shameful lies — and candidates who would approve sending them out.”
Windhorst is running against Finnie for the District 118 House seat in November's election.
The 118th District includes Alexander, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Pulaski, Saline and Union counties.
