Harrisburg Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education met Sept. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The special meeting of the Board of Education of Harrisburg Community Unit School District #3, Saline County, Illinois, was held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 as announced by posted public notice and by mail. The following members of the Board were present: Mr. Chris Penrod, Mr. Jeffrey Drake, Mr. Tom DeNeal, Mr. Ryan Lambert, and Mr. Jonathan Russell. Mr. Billy Smith, and Mr. Kevin Dowdy were absent.

The following administrators were present: Mike Gauch, Scott Dewar, Randy Smithpeters and Kim Williams. The following Unit #3 staff members were present: Keri Holland.

With a quorum of the members of the Board being present, Superintendent Gauch called the meeting to order and declared the Board to be in session for the transaction of business.

Mr. Lambert moved and Mr. DeNeal seconded the motion to enter into Executive Session to conduct three expulsion hearings. On a call of the roll, the motion received a unanimous vote of yea.

Board entered into Closed Session at 6:01 p.m.

Mr. Russell moved and Mr. DeNeal seconded the motion to reconvene in open session at 7:26 p.m. Upon a call of the President for a voice vote to be taken and the vote having been taken, it was determined the results of said motion carried.

Mr. DeNeal moved and Mr. Lambert seconded the motion that student 3629 be expelled from the Harrisburg CUSD 3- Harrisburg High School for unsafe actions. The expulsion is for a period of time beginning September 5, 2018 and ending January 2, 2019. During the period of student 3629’s expulsion from school, student 3629 shall not enter upon school grounds, attend any home or away school event or participate in any school activity of any kind. The board shall hold the expulsion described in the foregoing in abeyance conditional upon student 3629’s successful completion of the first semester of the 2018-2019 school year at the Learning Alternative Branch School. On a call of the roll, the motion received a unanimous vote of yea.

Mr. Lambert moved and Mr. Penrod seconded the motion that student 4260 be expelled from the Harrisburg CUSD 3- Harrisburg High School for unsafe actions. The expulsion is for a period of time beginning September 5, 2018 and ending June 1, 2019. During the period of student 4260’s expulsion from school, student 4260 shall not enter upon school grounds, attend any home or away school event or participate in any school activity of any kind. The board shall hold the expulsion described in the foregoing in abeyance conditional upon student 4260’s successful completion of the Learning Alternative Branch School for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year. Upon successful completion, student 4260 may return to Harrisburg High School beginning the 2019-2020 school year. On a call of the roll, the motion received a unanimous vote of yea.

Mr. Penrod moved and Mr. Drake seconded the motion that student 1874 be expelled from the Harrisburg CUSD 3- Harrisburg High School for unsafe actions. The expulsion is for a period of time beginning September 5, 2018 and ending June 1, 2020. During the period of student 1874’s expulsion from school, student 1874 shall not enter upon school grounds, attend any home or away school event or participate in any school activity of any kind. On a call of the roll, the motion received a unanimous vote of yea.

Mr. DeNeal moved and Mr. Russell seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting. Upon a call of the President for a voice vote to be taken and the vote having been taken, it was determined the result of said motion carried.

The meeting adjourned at 7:31 p.m.
