A House resolution adopted Nov. 15 honored Valarie Hodges, food service coordinator for Harrisburg schools, for her work with The Summer Food Program.
The measure was sponsored by Rep. Natalie Phelps Finnie (D-Harrisburg).
"House Resolution 1279 is congratulating Valarie Hodges on her work with The Summer Food Program and food service," Finnie said. "[For] many of you who live in impoverished areas, as we do, it's such a vital program and feeds so many kids. I ask you all to congratulate Valarie Hodges."
Hodges received honorable mention for the Governor's Hometown Award Program this year.
Hodges started The Summer Food Program in 2012. It provides children with free meals over the summer; adults who bring the children can purchase meals for $3, House Resolution 1279 noted, adding that nearly 6,000 meals have been provided since June; in 2017 alone it provided more than 10,000 meals.
The program is supported by donations and volunteers.
