Statewide test results: 41 percent of New Hope failed English language arts

Scores21

About 59 percent of New Hope Elementary School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 41 percent of students failed, according to a SE Illinois News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to New Hope Elementary School English language scores, about 49 percent met expectations and 10 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 26 percent approached expectations, while 11 percent partially met expectations and 5 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at New Hope Elementary School, which enrolled 166 students in 2018, surpassed state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
