Cox & Son Funeral Home issued recently the following announcement.
Judith A. Atkins, age 77 of Ridgway passed on this life, February 22, 2019 in the Wabash Christian Village in Carmi. Judy as most knew her was born in Evansville, IN on August 24, 1941 to the late Phillip and Aileen (Abell) Ande. She graduated from Ridgway High School and then furthered her education becoming a Licensed Cosmetologist. On October 24, 1964 she married her love, Ed Atkins who preceded her in death in 2016.
Judy worked hard all of her life, she owned and operated her own Beauty Salon, was the beautician at the Ridgway Nursing home, worked many years for Jones Farm Store and the Gallatin County Tin Shop in retail sales. Judy and Ed owned and operated Ed & Judy’s Village Lounge in Ridgway in the 1970’s. She was a faithful member of the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway and Altar Society. Judy loved her family, but especially her grandchildren. She will be missed by many.
Judy is survived by 2 daughters, Denise (Bill) Oxby of Elberfield, IN, Melinda (Kevin) Bratcher of Carmi, IL. 4 Grandchildren, Adam, Bailey and Lauren Bratcher, Courtney (Sam) Garau and 3 Great Grandchildren, Emi, Ali and Sammy Garau. 3 Sisters, Mary Helen Cook, Janice (JD) Cooley and Joyce Jones all of Eldorado. A sister in law, Betty Cox of Ridgway and a brother in law, Don Drone of Ridgway. Many Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Charles Atkins, a brother Jimmy Ande and a sister, Phyllis Drone.
Visitation for Judy will be on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019 at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway from 4;00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service starting at 4:00 PM. Her funeral mass will be on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2019 starting at 10:00 AM at the St. Kateri Catholic Church in Ridgway with Fr. Steven Beatty celebrating mass. She will be laid to rest by her son and husband in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Ridgway.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to one of the following, St. Kateri Catholic Church, Wabash Christian Nursing Center or the Baptist Children’s Home. Envelopes will be available.
