City of Albion City Council met February 19

City of Albion City Council met Feb. 19.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The Albion City Council met in regular session on Feb 19, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Albion City Hall. Mayor John Henze called the meeting to order and led Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Present- Pat Hemming, Eric Eirikson, Eric Schmidt, Kim Dostal, and absent Jordan Hinkle.

Before approval of agenda Public Hearing date was changed for March 5, 2019 @ 6:30.

Schmidt moved to approve the agenda and Hemming seconded it. Motion passed 4-0

Dostal moved to approve the consent agenda and was seconded by Schmidt. The consent agenda consisted of regular minutes from Jan 22, 2019 minutes, and Feb 5 & 14, 2019 spec meeting minutes, and approval claims for payment, and financial reports. Motion passed 4-0.

Deputy Hunter gave the sheriff’s report.

Schmidt, public safety chairman, stated MCCC – County forcing a special tax line for dispatchers. Asked council to consider putting a fencing around well field.

Aaron Betts, Fire Chief, introduced himself to the council as newly elected Chief. Mayor Henze approved and thanked him.

EMS, reported by Schmidt said program is in turmoil. The department had their annual audit 2/19/19.

Hemming, water chairman, gave both the water and wastewater report.

Dostal, sewer chairman, suggested the city start slip lining sewer lines.

Julia Ohrt, Librarian, informed the council about Library Pot Luck kick-off last Wednesday of every month.

Eirikson, street chairman, stated the snow is getting moved.

Keefer, city maintenance, stated the sander on the snow plow broke and is getting repaired.

Nothing to report for Park & Rec.

Eirikson motioned and Dostal seconded to adopt proposed budget & set order of public hearing for March 5, 2019.

Due to weather Ms. Brownell could not make it.

Albion Pride days scheduled for June 1, 2019 got permission to hold the event pending a certification of insurance page from the fireworks company.

Marty Wymore, Region Six, discussed the opportunity for Albion to apply for a block grant match from I.E.D. with a $300,000.00 match. The City will have to perform a test well, obtain SRF funding, hire an engineer, and have an environmental census review.

Council has suggested that we dig a new well.

Council has suggested that the city hook onto Rural water.

Schmidt motioned and Eirikson seconded for adjournment of regular meeting and to go into budget workshop. Regular meeting adjourned 7:37pm. Motion passed 4-0

Budget workshop opened at 7:37pm

Schmidt motioned and Hemming seconded to close budget workshop. Motion passed 4-0.

Budget Workshop closed at 8:33pm
