City of Albion City Council met April 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

he Albion City Council met in regular session on Apr 16, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Albion City Hall. Mayor John Henze called the meeting to order and led Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll Call: Present- Pat Hemming, Eric Eirikson, Eric Schmidt, Jordan Hinkle, and Kim Dostal present via conference call.

Schmidt moved to approve the agenda and Hemming seconded it. Motion passed 5-0

Dostal moved to approve the consent agenda and was seconded by Schmidt. The consent agenda consisted of regular minutes from Mar 19, 2019 minutes, and Mar 27, 2019 spec sewer meeting minutes, and approval claims for payment, and financial reports. Motion passed 5-0.

Councilman Schmidt read the sheriff’s report.

Public Safety – nothing to report.

Aaron Betts, Fire Chief, stated they had been on 7 calls the month of Mar. Put new tires on pumper, fixed leak on #5. Fire Dept welcomed two new volunteers: Cole Stalzer and Justin Krueger.

Ryan McRill, EMS Chief, stated they had been on 3 medical calls for Mar and need to schedule a meeting for defib certification.

Hemming, water chairman, read the water report and the sewer report.

Julia Ohrt, Librarian, showed council the direct mail flier. Special events in May are “Space” themed. On July 17 Apollo Mission Memories 50th Anniversary.

Hinkle, P&R, stated a ramp would be installed at the concession stand restrooms and the sidewalk north of Library to be finished.

Eirikson, streets, gravel needs to settle on Chicago St before patching due to water main break.

Keefer, City Maintenance, started mowing season and attended to water main break.

Rick Matney, insurance agent, presented insurance papers to City.

A discussion was had by the citizens in attendance regarding the City’s water issue. After the discussion an opinion by the show of hands was taken. Not everyone in attendance raised their hand. Of the people present, who raised their hands, 6 persons for rural water and 21 persons for digging of new well.

A motion to approve renewing a certificate of deposit was tabled until next regular meeting.

Resolution 2019-02 to approve a decision for the City’s water source was 2 for rural and 3 for new well. Resolution was vetoed by Mayor Henze. Upon veto, the council has 30 days from April 17, 2019 to conduct a meeting to override the veto with a super majority vote. The Veto – From Mayor Henze – I veto this because, at this time I do not believe that it would be in good judgement to put this City this far in debt and still not have good quality water.

A motion by Hemming and a second by Dostal to adjourn the meeting. Motion passed 5-0 Meeting adjourned at 8:00pm.
