White County Board of Education met June 27.

7:45 AMPublic Hearing for Millage

Highlights of the called public hearing of July 23, 2019.

The purpose of the public hearing is to offer input for the White County School’s proposed millage for 2019. Julie Dorsey presented information to those present and offered an opportunity for questions and input.

8:00 AM Regular Meeting

The meeting was called to order at 8:05 AM by Chairman Missy Jarrard in the Cliff H. Hood Administrative Board Room at 136 Warriors Path.

BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT:Missy Jarrard, Jon Estes, John Solmon, Charlie Thomas, Linda Erbele

BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT: None

STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Laurie Burkett, Sandra Dorsey, Scott Justus, William Sperin, Abby Rowland, Julie Dorsey, Jennifer King, Cindy Free, Laura Corley, MaryKay Berry

VISITORS PRESENT: Stephanie Hill, White County News

The meeting was opened with prayer by Jon Estes.

The agenda and minutes of June 6, 2019, June 18, 2019, June 25, 2019, June 27, 2019 were approved.

Department Reports - Cindy Free discussed the following policies that have been on the table since July and also the ones to have approval of the first reading and tabled until August

Ø BOE Policies – tabled from June

Remove from table and approve:

o DJE – Purchasing

o EEE – Wellness Program

o IFCB - Field Trips and Excursions

Remove from table and rescind:

o IED – Scheduling of Instruction

o IEDA – Unstructured Break Time

Ø BOE Policies – 1st reading approval/table until August Cindy Free

o JAA – Equal Educational Opportunities

o JCAC – Harassment

Ø BOE Policies – approve first reading to rescind and table until August

o JBCD – Transfer and Withdrawals

o JGFB – Supervision of Students

Ø After School Plan - Jennifer King gave a brief description of the tentative plans for an alternative program for afterschool students since the 21st Century Program was not funded for FY 20.

Ø School Nutrition Bids – SY 20 - Abby Rowland reviewed the school nutrition bids for FY 20.

Assistant Superintendent’s Report - Scott Justus

Ø July SPLOST Request - Mr. Justus outlined the July request for facilities and new buses.

Superintendent’s Report – Dr. Laurie Burkett

Ø Verification of completed BOE Training for FY 19 – all board members have completed the required training for FY 19 and the verification form is ready to sign and submit.

Ø BOE Training Plan for FY 20 – Dr. Burkett stated that Pioneer RESA is able to incorporate the safety drill on October 4th into the board training. She also presented the other options for additional training.

Ø Reminder of Millage Hearings and Called Meeting – Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 6:00 PM and Tuesday, July 30, 2019 beginning @ 5:45 PM

Ø Yearly Calendar – some items have been moved to August and all July items have been addressed.

Executive Session – Personnel

2. Following executive session, the Board approved the following personnel action:

Resignations:

Danny Ling – Teacher at WCMS effective SY 20

Christie Boone – Paraprofessional at MYES effective SY 20

Mary Rosene – Counselor at WCMS effective 7-18-19

Transfer:

Lisa Addis – from teacher to School Counselor at WCMS effective 7-23-19

Tammy Holbrooks from substitute to full time nutrition assistant at TGAP for SY 20

Appointments:

Robin Churchwell – SpEd Teacher at WCMS effective SY 20

Carissa Dover – SpEd C0-Teacher at WCHS effective SY 20

Chris Jenkins – Teacher at WCMS effective SY 20

School Nutrition Personnel -

Brittany Wilmont as substitute nutrition assistant, pending background check. Eleanor Hammersen as a substitute nutrition assistant.

Transportation Personnel:

Steven Tucker – Substitute Bus Drivers contingent upon completion of training and documentation effective 7-23-19

Lorrie Sayer – Substitute Bus Drivers contingent upon completion of training and documentation effective 7-23-19
