A strong turnout highlighted the recent Senior Health Fair held at the Effingham National Guard Armory.
The event, which offered local seniors the chance to received free health screenings and speak with local and state government officials on topics like unclaimed property, was hosted by state Reps. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville), Blaine Wilhour (R-Effingham) and Brad Halbrook (R-LaGrange Park) and state Sens. Dale Righter (R-Mattoon), Jason Plummer (R-St. Louis) and Chapin Rose (R-Champaign).
Anyone who attended the event was also entered into a drawing for various door prizes.
"I am pleased that we had over 50 vendors, services and state offices represented to help senior citizens understand their rights and connect with services to help make their lives better," Bailey said in a press release.
“What a wonderful opportunity for our older population to receive health tests for things like high blood pressure or diabetes and work with government offices like the State Treasurer to find out if they have a property claim owed to them from the state,” Bailey said.
Seniors who were unable to attend can still learn more about state programs by calling 618-665-4109.
